Set a WhatsApp PIN to protect your account
Updated 20 October 2026, 2 minute readA two step PIN is a six digit code that WhatsApp asks for when a number is registered again. Setting one keeps your account yours, even on an instant number that someone else may use later.
Why set a PIN
Instant numbers can go back to the pool and be given to another person after you. A PIN means that even if they register the number, they cannot open your account without your code.
How to set it
In WhatsApp, open Settings, then Account, then Two step verification, and tap Turn on. Choose a six digit PIN you will remember and add an email address so you can reset it.
Do this right after you verify, while you still have the number open.
If you forget it
Use the email you added to reset the PIN from WhatsApp. If you did not add an email, WhatsApp makes you wait seven days before you can register the number again without the PIN.
